Anchoring down a wooden green house
« on: May 27, 2009, 17:48 »
My mum has just brought one of these a 6 X 4 wooden green house (catalog picture below)... She wants it to go on her patteo in an open position (i.e. not against a wall)

Im a bit worryed that it might blow over... and one got any thoughts on this... how might it be best to ancar it down?

How about fixing some tanilised timber too the patio drill plug and screw then place greenhouse directly on top and screw to tanilised battons that way your greenhuse should last longer as its off the ground and hopefully not blow away.

Yep, drill and screw in rawplugs. Probably the easiest way to anchor it down.

ok im up for that...

now time for some stupid questions:

The patio is made from those concreet slab type flagstones... know the ones i meen?...

How long should the screws be... what type of pluges... will i need a hammer drill?...

Also, howmany points of attachment will i need?

The green house comes with a base already... should I use some sort of lshaped plater to ancar it down?...

I would use 2inch square tanilised batten three inch screws brown plugs and a no 7 drill bit yes to the hammer drill but once you have fixed the timber to the patio as long as the foot print is the same as the greenhouse then you can place it on the battens and screw it to them is that clear

If you decide you need a bit more height in the G/house use 4x2 or 6x2 on edge fixed down with angle brackets.

If its glass 3 brackets each side if its polycarb 3 each side 2 each end.

Hi MV  :D

I'm going to pop this thread over to the Design and Construction forum, in case anyone else is lurking there who can suggest more info  :)

Might be worth having a browse of some of the other threads in that forum, as I'm sure others might have faced similar vexing questions
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Make sure that your greenhouse sits on something more durable than your greenhouse. If your greenhouse is cedar, treated softwood battens will rot way before your greenhouse, like wot mine did. I really don't want to dismantle mine just to replace the base

Normally wooden greenhouses come with concrete blocks that you bolt them too.
In all my years of putting them up, I've never had one move in the wind.
