Title: apache euro 5 cultivator
Post by: lazydog on March 16, 2011, 13:15
Hi all some advice please:-
after a break in to the garden shed i have had a £2000 worth of tools stolen amongst them a 15yr old merry tiller 4HP long story cut short my insurance are offering to replace with a Apache 5HP Euro 5 and i can not find a lot of info about these machines except sites selling them.
Because of the amount of stuff stolen inc. welder, chainsaw i have accepted their offer as i happy with everything else i just dont know about this machine it is only for use in my own garden.
Any input greatly received please

I've never heard of them.
The engines sound, a pretty standard Briggs by the look of things. I wonder if it would be too late to ask them for an Alko instead? German company, and likely to be able to get spares in ten years time.

I have already accepted! My welder was the main thing and i got better than i had lost,
even though i have new for old my old merry tiller was a work horse and i know they could never replace it,so long as the engine is solid enough the rest i can see me updating myself i am quite good engineering wise,it has got 12months warranty i just cant find anything on the net except sales like this
http://www.abbeygardensales.co.uk/rotavators/apache-cultivators/showitem-F1-946162350.aspx
but no user guide anywhere and no manufactures web site :(
Just have to wait till it comes now i think i was to hasty accepting it but i need my welder for work and am losing customers so had to act.

I expect it'll fine, We have several members on here that have bought less well know machines and have been very happy with them. I'm a mechanic, and so therefore a natural sour-puss when looking at machinery ;) Where most people look at things and think "that looks great, and that's a good feature  :D" I look at things and think " that'll snap off, And I bet you won't be able to replace it without a total strip-down of those other ten bits...... :()

If you are on new for old then why not go for a new Merry Tiller. I guess your old machine was an Atco Major. The current Super Major is virtually identical to the old 1970s Wolseley Major and does not have adjustable handles, but it must be the nearest you can get.
