Title: Rain at last!
Post by: DHM on August 10, 2018, 06:35
Down here we've had 4 days of on-off, sometimes torrential rain, the 1st since we took on our arid, scorched plot on in Mid May and I have to say, not having to go up daily to water everything this week has been quite nice as it was becoming a bit of a chore.

Anyone else enjoying this wet spell?

It rained yesterday afternoon, here and had a couple of short showers this morning, which is good for the garden. I certainly won't miss having to carry those watering cans for a while  ;)

What I'm not enjoying is the sudden drop in temperature - down to just below 10C last night. From one extreme to another for the plants, at least I can put a cardi on  :D

Haven't had any worth shouting about in Dorset yet. Can I ripen all the tomatoes before they start splitting when the downpour arrives?

If they are all green, then no. If they've started to change colour the they will finish ripening indoors.

Ah yes, the August curse. I'm grateful for the rain, but hoping we get an average month rather than the windscreen wiper shifting from one extreme to another that seems to have been a feature of the UK weather over the last 10 years.
