Title: Days Out - RAF Cosford
Post by: Roll Roll on December 09, 2008, 20:57
I dont know how to put a link on, but for a FREE day out try the RAF Museum Cosford. This is a vast museum inside and out, and has such planes as the huge Vulcan, Victor,Valiant, not to mention Spitfire and Hurricane. theres plenty for the kids to do, like interactive displays and a flight simulator. It very easy to find right on the West Midland/ Shropshire /Staffordshire border. Its about 1/2 a mile from junction 3 of the M54 very well signposted. Oh yes once a year they usually have a fantastic air show (chargable) but worth it. Enjoy.

I just have to echo what Roll Roll says. Cosford is brilliant! I live near it so visit quite often and would especially recommend the cold war museum part of it, although its all good.

If you go in winter though, wrap up warm. Free entry, free parking, nice cafe.

and..... just to complete the South Staffs RAF cosford appreciation society, If you're about  on 14th June 2009, it's the best day out, and if we're lucky we'll get to see the Vulcan bomber airbourne again...Here (http://www.cosfordairshow.co.uk/)
Let's hope the sun shines next year!

If it's still in the air then, they are really struggling for money at the moment and are not sure how long they will be able to keep the old girl going. It'll be a great shame if they have to ground her after all that hard work.

And just to echo what the others have said,RAF Cosford really is a great day out and my favorite bit is the cold war museum.

DO NOT BOTHER GOING - unless you want to spend 8 hours stuck in your car!!!!    We went yesterday.  It took us 4 hours to travel the last 7 miles of the M54.  We missed most of the air show.  When we did get there, we had to park miles and miles and miles away.  Not enough people on the ground directing traffic.  Car parks not clearly marked / designated.  Not enough people who knew where things were; honestly if you are  going to have car park attendances (all 10 of them for at least 20,000 cars / people) wouldn't you give them all a map so that if asked, they can tell people where things are?!

4 hours travelling the last 7 miles.....followed by a miserable 4 hour wait just to get off the airfield at the end because no-one was directing or controlling the traffic flow.

A complete waste of £40 ticket money and half a tank of diesel.  NEVER AGAIN!

Plus - this is about RAF Cosford in general - NOT the one off event that occurred yesterday.

What happened at the air show yesterday is not really relevant to the venue in general.
