scanning pics to PC problem.
« on: February 09, 2019, 16:20 »
I often scan pics or docs into my PC then copy from the list into whatever folder I need, but on the odd occasion my printer saves them as a PDF file rather than a pic that I can tweak when viewing it and I don't know why. I always put the pic to be scanned onto the printer plate, press scan, and it usually appears on my list as a JPG which is what I want. Not having done anything different in the past or today and haven't changed any settings is there a way to change it to a JPG as the drop-down "save as" has no alternative option.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

When you fire up the scanner, GG, do you operate the scan from the keyboard?

If you do this, you'll get the option to 'save as', and a JPG option should be shown at the bottom.

I don't scan by pressing any buttons on the multi-printer (Epson), we use; it's all done via the keyboard.

Hope this helps anyway...

Ah, I didn't know that. I just put the doc onto the printer scanner plate and press SCAN so how do you do it using the keyboard?

Assuming (not necessarily correctly) that you installed software on your PC when you bought your printer/scanner, if you open the 'app' you should have a menu of options (instructions too if you're lucky!)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

As Jay says, GG!

Can you tell us what your scanner model is? You may be able to download the software...

Thanks for your help guys. My printer software was downloaded by the firm who sorted me out when I got a new PC so all should  be there. Having had a look on-line at my printer ops I got a bit confused but it seems I can do it this way:
Choose "Save As" from the File menu. Choose "JPEG" from the "Save as type" drop-down menu. Click the "Save" button to save the original scanned document as a JPEG file. This will keep your original file and add the newly converted file.
I'll give it a go and see what happens then let you know.

Actually it didn't work nor did several other google suggestions so, as I couldn't lay my hands on my printer manual due to office reorganisations, I googled my printer model then searched from there. I found that I could change my scanning method from a doc (where it's always been set at) to a pic which saves it as a jpeg and it worked!
