after having problems getting it to germinate, I've put some in paper pots in the airing cupboard for a few days. A few have germinated and I've taken them out into the light as they do, but they still look pale and not right at all...

Does this method work or do they need to come out of the airing cupboard before they hit the surface?

How big are the shoots?

They are pale green until they start making chlorophyll, which usually starts to happen as soon as they emerge (if they are almost white and more than a centimetre or so long they probably didn't get put into the light quickly enough, but don't despair, keep them warm and as light as possible and they should be fine.)
