Tomato Variety Report
« on: November 04, 2012, 11:19 »
Hi All,

Just came across this report on Early Tomatoes while hunting around, thought it might be of interest even if from 2007.

Being an American study, this may be of limited use to UK growers. We've run our own polls for the past two years which can be found here:

Actually I think the growing season (May-September) is very similar to that of many areas in the UK and as such the trial would be relevant. Obviously no trial could tell the whole story, neither could the polls, but every detail to help make a decision is valuable I think.

Also, if my brief reading of the below chart is correct, apart from being dry, the temperature comparison with the UK would be appropriate.

Britain being a small island is quite climatically different to a state in the north west USA. I know how "wintery" it gets in Seattle in December, right by the ocean, where Idaho is land-locked. You'd be very unlikely to get the same temperature variations in the UK.

Thanks for the links, as you say all info helps - but unfortunately, it's been quite a while since we've had those sorts of average high temperatures for each of the summer months  :(
