[Fat Hen]

Today was a dry day after all the rain, so I moved some rubbish out of the garden and collected together some plant pots that had been piled up for cleaning and re-use.

All the hens had a great time grubbing up the worms that were exposed, Rita however found one enormous worm, almost as thick as her neck and about 6" long.  

Took her ages to eat it, kept throwing it over her shoulder and pecking at it but looked overawed.  Eventually after abour 20 min (amazed none of the other chucks saw her antics) she got the better of it and it was gone.

Phew :!:  

Best entertainment i've had today.

It's amazing what a hen can swallow.  My Gerty used to swallow whole frogs  :shock:

It was especially nice to see Rita enjoying her worm as we almost lost her when we first got her from BHWT.  She had a prolapse and was really poorly, and almost bald back in October.

She's a different hen now with almost a complete covering of feathers, and has put on weight ( she was tiny).  She's a real sweaty.
