Very wet garden.
« on: March 27, 2008, 12:10 »
What can I plant that will take up alot of water?
We don't have a very big garden. Lawn in the middle, playhouse and chicken run at the end and small fruit trees along one side.
Everytime it rains it gets VERY muddy and is ruining the grass. What could I plant that would help?
Thanks.

It sounds like you have a drainage problem. What type of soil do you have? Not sure that plants will solve your problem. I get 60 inches of rainfall annually up here and the only way of solving my wet garden was to dig small ditches/channels, line them with a membrane, fill with stone and recover with soil to just below spade depth. I now have  a garden that is reasonably dry during the spring/summer.
the other thing you could try is get a garden fork and make small holes over the lawn which should help
