Cache of broad beans...
« on: November 14, 2011, 05:31 »
When we took on the 'Patch, there were a few items left in the shed, which also was nearly derelict, but mendable.

During the clear-out, we found a big tin, which was full of broad beans, all nice and dry, but not labelled, so we just chucked them on the heap while more important jobs were dealt with, like a bit of hard digging.

Just the other day, while poking around in the heap, I found that most of them had germinated! There they were, tiny roots and inch long plants as healthy as you'd like!

So I've sown the lot!

Well, why not, assuming they're not F1s, (She wouldn't have kept them if they were, and anyway, I don't know of any F1s), we may just get a good show next year, and if they don't work, well, we'll just have to sow some new ones won't we!

Nothing to lose there Growster  :)  If you get a decent crop you can save the seed and have your own Growster's Patch variety  :D

I reckon so News. I really have no idea how old they are, but if they've got away so far, they deserve a chance don't they!

And it might save us a few pence too...;0)
