raised beds seem to be the norm these days as more of us gardeners are turning to raised beds more than the traditional way of growing
so we all seem to go with the plastic pipe and enviromesh hoop system to protect the crop but I found that the white butterfly somehow managed to lay some eggs on some of my brassicas the only explanation I could see was that some leaves where toughing the netting
so I decided to convert the round hoop into square so basically the raised bed was covered like a box with the plastic pipe across the bed and I found no infestation of any bugs penetrating the net or the plant leaves touching the net even the Brussel sprouts where clear when I picked them
so do you think its a better idea to have aa square system of netting rather than the hoop idea just asked to get your thoughts on which you thing is the best way

Hooped or square i think the important thing is that you ensure no leaves touch the netting.
some of my cauli leaves grown in my fruit cage were touching and they had caterpillars

I found this year using that very fine enviromesh-style covering meant the holes were too small for pointy-bottom butterflies to lay eggs on the leaves.
Hoops are fine here, and allow the cover the drain after rain, rather than sagging under the weight of water retained by the very fine mesh, even though it is not actually absorbed by the fibres themselves

On my site the curved hoop-covers survived any strong winds, whereas a lot of the straight-sided covers were flattened :ohmy: Perhaps the shape allows the wind to blow over the tops more easily?
