this may be a long document but tips and advice are usefull .. by the way even with rats and mice you have a duty of care so be warner severe penalties can be imposed if you dont follow the rules

The safest way to control rats and grey squirrel's is cage traps and an powerful air rifle. That way you can release anything else that gets in the trap, but you do have to inspect the trap regularly, two or three times a day.

If you have a heavy infestation of rats, even if you use half a dozen traps, you are only going to ever scratch the surface of your problem. Rats can also develop trap shyness.

As a professional pest controller, I only ever used traps when there was only one or two rats that had recently got into human housing.
