OMG reading the later comments maybe im not ready yet!!!

The neighbour down the road says she does it with a knife??? recommended or not??

There is a very useful guide posted by Munty that I would recommend over using a knife.

Apart from being sure you are not causing upset or pain to the bird, an inexperienced culler could end up doing themselves some harm with a knife in their hand.

Munty's guide does contain some graphic images, but it is very clear and detailed  :)

Not something I would like to do.  I would recommend the broomstick method as I find that the easiest, then the wall mounted dispatcher for bigger birds.

The knife method is not to be recommended in my view although years ago I did use it ! it is messy and I am not convinced it is humane . If you need details PM me it is not for an open post in my view !

I knew someone who ate her silkies, I think its just that they are rather small, and isn't their meat a bit darker?

you can serve a silkie as a spatchcock and have one per person :)
Staffies are softer than you think.
