pinching out sweetpeas
« on: May 23, 2013, 21:49 »
Hi All,
I know to pinch out the tips after 3 sets of leaves but do you need to do it after that? And if so at what points

Thanks

I always leave them alone after that  ;)

Plant them out and tie them to their canes - job's a good'un  :)

oooh just remembered remove all dead flowers or they stop flowering and start making pods instead - and we don't want that  :nowink:

When do they stop flowering mum? Is it the first frost, or before?
I do want to keep several plants for seed as I have planted several varieties/ single colours so I hope a few will be cross pollinated.
I aim to have at least a dozen wigwams between the 2 plots next year.

It's difficult to say, cos it depends on the weather
With all that rain last year they stopped early. :(

Mine always run out of steam before the frosts - fewer flowers, with shorter stalks.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Last year was a dreadful result, most of mine didn't even start flowering, just got attacked by the mad storm and gave up - hoping for better success with this year's giant navy (oooooh)
My husband's a water sign, I'm an earth sign, together we make mud :-)

My gardening diary is here - go on, have a peek , you might be able to help me!
