Title: paper eggs

help, I Have 4 chickens and they have laid 4 eggs aday for the past year and a half with no problems, but i have been an egg short on the odd day here and there, but on further invastigation, found a very soft egg with just its membrain an no shell under the rail that they sleep on, what do i do, I have never looked at the egg chamber, should i be checking this, if so how and when, Please HELP, I'd hate to think that they would be suffering in any way .

Make sure that they have got access to either oyster shell or ground baked egg shells at all times (feed from a seperate container). If it is just a one off then I wouldn't worry too much but just keep an eye on them  :)

As joyfull says its a lack of Calcium very common and more so in hybrids of that age. Make sure if you purchase oyster shell that it is ground small enough for a chicken to eat.
You will also notice that this year that egg production will drop off, as they are coming to the end of there productive life.
