I would love to hear your comments, pros and cons.

The lady is very close to us and sounded as if she knew what she was doing.

I have araucanas - lavender, white, black red and black. they are pretty birds although most lavenders do seen to be coming rather small these days. Mt big boys are also lavender araucanas so I have hatched 11 chicks this year - do you want a free cockerel chick  ;)  :D. They lay the most lovely colour blue eggs  :). I have not had wyandottes so can't coment apart from they have lovely markings on them.

Thanks for that. 

I guess one of the things I have to work out is how far from the neighbours they need to be so the boys don't wake them  :D

What do you do with your spare boys?  I guess most people try and sell in pairs or trios?

I was gonna get some wynadottes as they are gorgoeus, this is before i got the ones i have, decided against it though as was told they are very prone to going broody,   nickyx

so far I have been able to rehome my boys but any left over will be eaten  :)

I had wyandottes (till my husband left the gate open one night :( ) and they were lovely, but they were also my most reliable broodies - even more reliable than my Silkies! However when they weren't broody they were extremely good layers, laying big eggs daily. And very placid too. I have plans to hatch some more next year but husband would go mad if I hatched any more out this year.

As for spare cockerels - we eat our spare ones or send them to the cockerel man near us who sells them for breeding purposes. He usually knows exactly what he wants though, and if what I have spare doesn't fit the bill, it's Sunday lunch, I'm afraid!
