It's a bit late in the season for this but I've just learned this. Apparently wireworms are very attracted to rye crops. So, if you've got wireworm problems then you shouldn't be green manuring with any of the ryes, and probably not mulching with any of the rye grasses.

And those with deer problems should cut up a bar of the very strongly scented deodorant soaps (like Irish Spring if it's available in the UK) into 8ths. Enclose each piece in its own netted cage of chicken wire and hang from various spots in the trouble areas. Apparently the deer find the scent repulsive and will stay away. Replace when they they begin to shrink too much.
