Securing My Greenhouse
« on: September 04, 2008, 09:47 »
Hi Everyone,
I'm very lucky to have been given a secondhand green house for my allotment but the question is how do I make it secure from the wind, we are very exposed and the wind can really cause problems.
My fellow allotmenteers have warned me about securing it down but to be honest I need some help on how to do it, any help or tips would be gratefully appreciated

Thanks in advance
Colin  :?

The best thing would be to lay a concrete base and bolt the frame into the concrete. You could also put a 'fence' around it out of pallets secured to posts about 3 or 4 foot away......this should give a bit of protection against the wind.

After chasing mine across my plot, I used metposts with stubs of timber screwed to a wooden frame, lying flat on the ground. I then screwed the greenhouse to the frame (mine is wooden). I also wired it to the adjacent fence.
It has lasted a year like that.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

,Hi, one & all,
My g/house is sited on a very windy hill side, evened out the 8x6 area, added
base frame of 4x3 rough timber, screwed to g/house. Drove 2' lenghts of
timber, 8 off, into the ground, two per corner, screwed them to timber base plate. Touch wood, no pun intended , hasn't move yet.
Hope that helps Bye PAH
