Title: Welsh Water Fix a Leak!
Post by: John on December 23, 2017, 10:02
Quite how Welsh Water knew there was leak is a mystery but we had a couple of people visit to listen to our water pipe - twice - and then some poor chap wandering the fields and roads for nearly a week sticking a pole into the ground with a listening cup.
Then we had a 2 vans and a digger in the layby for 2 days to find the exact spot and replace the bit of pipe with a split.
The chaps doing the job were all really friendly as well - in fact one of them came up to the house to proudly show me the bit of pipe they'd replaced with a split.
I have to say I'm impressed by their determination to reduce leakage - especially as I hadn't realised (until I thought about it) how difficult a job it can be.

At least now when everyone is drawing water there is no chance of soiled water getting drawn in?

I hadn't thought of that, either!
We do tend to take clean, safe water for granted without a thought for the efforts that go into getting to our taps. Like electricity and gas.

Had this one last year , no sign of a surface leak but  the T bar and human ear can track a lot down !
Quite spectacular when they got the dirt out of the way !

That's what you call a fountain!

I reckon it would have taken less time if they'd had a good dowser John. And we'll have no jokes on that score - was married to someone who could, did and was jolly useful.

Just because we don't know how something works is no reason to be sure it doesn't. I've not seen an electron but I'm still not touching bare wires :)
I remember reading many years ago that some American troops were dowsing for mines in Vietnam. That's really putting your life on the line.

I have tried dowsing with Hazel twigs and coat hanger wire .
Guess what ?

It worked both times ! :)
