Need to stake my tomatoes and do the sideshoots but it can wait another day - too wet out there.

A ton of much needed weeding and then planted out various cucabits. Next up the beans!

Some groundwork to level an area to site a potting shed, then i got my first group of leeks transplanted to their growing bed. Lots of tidying up.

So far today,in between rain showers, hubby & I have renetted the top of the fruit cage, funny it only just fitted to start with! I’d taken it home to wash before sewing the 2 pieces together. When we first did it 3 years ago I just did it with some nylon string but it had come adrift but now I’ve made a proper job of it I hope as long as my thread doesn’t rot in the sunlight. Also repegged down the side edges of the netting, just a large hole to repair now(don’t know what happened to that!)

Planted out all the beans today. Only have the winter brassicas and sunflowers to plant outside now, melons and dosakai in the tunnel still to do as well.

Picked lots of strawberries & had to discard rather a lot as they were either mouldy, slug pecked or squishy with all this rain we’ve had, & the girls provided us with 3 eggs. Pulled up the rusty garlic & put it to dry in the shed

Managed to pop to plot between showers  ;)
Weeded onions and general tidy up.
Got more calabrese to plant, beetroot and savoy cabbage too.
Just need some dry weather to get to plot

This weekend I made a planter from an old pallet to cover and unsightly gap under our shed. I planted this with some Box from B&Q.

Also made a compost bin with some old pallets but I'm not too happy with it so this will be ccoming down this evening and re-purposed to make one or two raised beds.

Early morning watering of beds and greenhouse.  Measured out the irrigation pipe for the outdoor tomatoes, planning to complete the job this afternoon after work.  Our site inspection is sometime in July, no date given so I better start weeding later.

Hi, I returned home on Sunday night after a month away and went to look at my raised beds yesterday with a certain amount of trepidation.
A few of my onions and a couple of purple sprouting broccoli plants had bolted; my broad beans were aphid infested and the fennel looks a bit scrawny. Other than that, the peas, kale, red cabbage, potatoes and french beans are looking pretty good despite my neglect.
I found an ants nest in my compost and had a minor panic. However, as far as I can see, they've done a good job of breaking down what's in there. I added a bucket of water to the heap today as I don't suppose I should let them live in there indefinitely!
It's nice to be back.
