Periwinkle and chickens.
« on: February 16, 2011, 20:28 »
My dear Peter late last summer weed killed stinging nettles in an area about 100 yards by 10 foot of land bordering the hens field. The hens have had access to this land all winter and have just loved scrapping and scratching around.

While out with the dogs this morning I came across a rough area running along a stream bank in my village smothered with periwinkle, an excellent ground cover plant. Does anyone know if Periwinkle is poisonous to chickens as this self generating patch will not miss me digging some up to plant in my bare and barren area?

I think perriwinkle is from the vinca plant species and this doesn't appear to be poisoness to poultry - however you would need to keep the off it until it is well established.

Staffies are softer than you think.
