Howard Gem Quick Question
« on: September 12, 2007, 15:40 »
Just been offered one for £80, it's not working right. The bloke seems to think the timing chain/cog thingy has slipped, it's just had a new clutch which was £80, so does a gem have a timing belt etc & would it be worth it ? and how heavy are they as I have no trailer and it would have to get into the MPV!

Also a chap down the lottie says I can use his big MTD 6.5 hp for nothing, just to confuse the matter.

Trying to way it all up coz £80's a lot at the mo.

the gem is big (huge) not sure you would lift it in to the MPV you would need ramps. I do not know the weight but very heavy. Shaun would know if he could lift his into a car but that's smaller than any of the gems. My 220 is about all I can lift into a car on my own.

the gems old, and can be a pain in the ar%e to fix.
borrow chummie's and get him a four pack of beer when you use it.
cheaper in the long run, less hassle too. :D

yes as the boys have said mate its a big one well actually you don't get much bigger its weighs in at 650lb depending on the engine type, remember that one I got for nowt well it took 3 of us to get it onto my van up some planks ,ideally you want a very low trailer.£80 nots bad if you have the time to do it up and get it going as you will make a nice profit if you sell it,
that one of mine it needs an engine,a clutch,a pair of tyres, and a few bits and bobs
not sure about a timing belt mate its got a chain drive to the rotors is that what he means?
feed the soil not the plants

Better not show this thread to my Brian, the 'Gems' are his favourite!!  We were offered one 10 years ago by his friend, and we didn't have the money, he always regretted not buying it.  it was £100 then and he said it was a bargain!  He sed to use them a lot when he was landscaping.

Shame they are so darn BIG!!!!
