Hello from Birmingham raised bed advice needed
« on: April 06, 2013, 21:52 »
Hi everyone.

I have just joined the forum and looking forward to learning new ideas from the members.

I am currently thinking of making a raised bed of sorts to grow carrots in. I am not MR super DIY but willing to have a go. Any advice on how to make one preferably from reclaimed materials would be great.

Thanks  :)

Hi there and welcome to the forum.
Please would you add a location to your profile (county is fine) it will make answering questions easier for us.

I'll move this post to design and construction - to get help with the raised beds

Hi and welcome.

I made two raised beds this week from gravel boards. I needed them to be 1m x 0.75m x 0.30m.
I bought the wood from W**k*s' with size 10 screws(1.5" long).
Each board is 1.83m long.  I cut them at 1.05m.  With four short legs of 2"x2" posts (0.32m long).  All I did was drill two holes in each board end and screw onto the posts.  I have made them two boards high.  The extra length and width makes it easy to fill with growbags for the veg.
So, I have a rectangle, two boards high which has a short post inboard at each corner.  Very simple design and easy for me to make. It wasn't too expensive as the shop sells five boards for £17 ish. and we already had some 2x2 in the garage.  Hope this helps. C

I am using scaffold boards which I have so far got for free (work notice board and asking scaffold people!). They are really quite robust :-) I'm going up there is a bit to make more,
