We have had our plum tree for about 6 years and today is the first time we have had a small harvest, about 40 to 50 fruits. Its not the first time it has set fruit but most other times they were damaged when falling from the tree, it seems to me that there is a very small window between having semi ripe fruit and wind blown, the tree needs a hair cut but I am not sure where to find the best information and what to look for as regards fruiting spurs, any help appreciated, cheers Dave

The advice that is the norm in Cumbria is to not prune them. They prune themselves when the branches get overladen and break off. I've adopted this advice for the last thirty odd years and it's worked for me
