"spiral" chickens - twisted feathers
« on: November 14, 2011, 15:55 »
Im not sure if anyone will know what im on about, but last friday i went to colelct some hens from a dealer and he had some amazing little chicks, he called them spirals i think? ive googled but nothing come up.

they were a golden/light colour and their feathers had an appearance of twisting out away from the body if that makes sense, so they looked sort of spikey!

does anyone have the correct name for this bread? is it a hybrid? i havent seen one ebfore but they certainly look very cool little chickens. any info appreciated

thanks

sounds like frizzles to me too and several breeds have a frizzle variation. However please don't mate a frizzle to another frizzle as they end up with feather problems  :(
Staffies are softer than you think.

Unless you introduce a smooth feathered frizzle.   (I think they're gorgeous but OH says "no more chickens".  Meanie.  :tongue2: )

Yes, they are lovely - I always think of them as chickens with a perm!

definately sounds like frizzles! The frizzle feathering is caused my a gene so as said in a previous post you should mate frizzle to frizzle as it causes problems. Enjoy your fluffy chook! I would love a frizzle Poland Bantam to add to my flock but Fiance says NO MORE BIRDS!  :tongue2:
Just wondering why a "breeder" would call these birds spiral though - any breeder should know they are known as frizzle chickens. There is a Frizzle chicken club of GB if your interested to find out more info on your birds.  :)
1 fiance, 3 kids, 1 fish, 1 cat, 9 poland bantams, 6 Barbu de Watermael, 2 allotment plots and not enough time!
