My broody has hatched 2 out of 4 eggs, as A first timer, mum and me, what should I do? Just leave her to get on with it, or .... One baby has hatched yesterday, another by this morning, and maybe 2 more to follow. How long can they survive without food or water? Will mum take the babies to it, or should I put it right next to them?  Any advice thankfully recieved, Tatty

A chick doesnt need to eat for 24 hours as they absorb the yolk sac which provides them with nutrients.

I would leave them to get on with it but keep a wary eye out.

Also make sure the run is covered as magpies and crows take chicks

Ive just checked and theres another one hatched! Awwww its so cute, I will get pics soon, but I dont want to upset mum too much at the mo.

As one hatched yesterday, I would put a small bowl of chick crumb and a shallow dish of water near to where Mum is sitting.  She will show the chicks what to do
