what veg would you grow in trays in the (green house,or cold frame) befor planting out on the plot . A list woud be great.

all of the brassicas . celery leeks. im sure someone else will now add to this for ya denbo matey

I tend to do stuff like chard, beetroot (just put some in this morning), leeks, brassicas, sweetcorn, lettuce in fact most things, maybe easier to do a list that I dont grow on. Carrots, radish and some more roots.

Make sure you harden things off though - I've launched things onto the plot sadly unprepared. Have to start my peas again.

Snap. It's easier to keep an eye on plugs when they're starting off. The exception for us is salsify and scorzonera, they pushed out of their plugs in a few days :shock: I sow e.g. beetroot, onion and stump rooted carrot seed in clusters in modules, and plant out as clusters too. They push each other apart when they're growing.

My greenhouse isn't heated - given that we seem to be heading for winter (fianally!) do you think I should wait a few weeks before sowing anything?

The few things we have been growing in the last couple of weeks are toms, cucumbers and lettuce.
we're just keeping them in the dingin room and kitchen right now.
The weather looks like it is turning really cold, especially for the next week.
My area of Surrey is expected to go as low as -3 this weekend.
not sure I fancy even any digging till the middle of the week.
