cleaning the oven roof
« on: February 18, 2019, 12:34 »
My Bosch Ovens have the grills built in under the oven roof.   I like to keep it spotless, and feel that maybe I should try to clean the grills and behind them.   The grills are not removeable.   Have you any advice on what to try.   Mrs Bouquet

I agree with Wapello as you don't want to do anything that will stop your oven working as it should.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

Oven cleaning? What's that then? - not another one of those things that I should be doing, but don't bother with...

You and me too, my oven gets sterilized every time I turn it on and I rarely peer inside it. I will sometimes clean the glass when I can no longer see through it, but that's it. Spillages get cleaned up, usually.  :tongue2:

To see what state my (gas) oven roof is in I'd need to lie flat on the floor and crane my neck upwards, neither of which I'm capable of doing these days without requiring a subsequent trip to A&E!

I do clean the glass front occasionally, but even that's a bit fraught, as to do it properly I have to remove it and take it to the sink, and I reckon it's one very expensive piece of glass (this is the company which charges an extra £20 for the luxury of a grill handle!)

Mr's B. - any chance your oven and grills are the 'self cleaning' type which only need a wipe from time to time?
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

Ovens are like soap - self cleaning  :D

You could try a steam cleaning thing if it bothers you. I know ML used to get very cross if FL had cooked something uncovered and splatted the grill in fat. It smoked really badly next time she used it and smelt terrible.

I got a glass scraper from Amadziz which is made of steel and has a removable metal blade. It's really good at getting burnt bits and other splashes off and doesn't scratch the glass either. Any residue can be removed with a de-greaser and scourer.

Thanks for all your replies.  This is what I did in the end.    Got out the ""Instruction Manual"" and re-read it, after it being dormant for some while !!   It is all self-cleaning, with a setting to use to reclean the stay-clean sides, back and ROOF.  I must admit I have never used this setting.
I got a soft large toothbrush (I keep a selection of them in my cleaning box) and just gently rubbed around the grill bars.   Nothing came off onto the brush or the papers I had placed in the bottom.    So I now feel pleased to get all your hints, and that I have successfully done it.  Thanks again,  Mrs Bouquetx

Be careful when placing items on the bottom of your oven as it might have a heating element there as well. check your manual

Surely if it is inside it should be the oven ceiling ? ;)

That's very clever, I shall point to Bosch, they should refer to the oven ceiling.   Then you know what, they will say - lost in the interpretation    Mrs Bouquet
