Chilli pepper newbie
« on: July 08, 2019, 18:34 »
This is my first year growing chilli peppers. I bought them as plug plants and potted them on into 2 Litre pots. They look incredibly healthy and are thinking of flowering but roots are beginning to appear out of the bottom of the pots. I obviously should have used bigger pots to start with and will next year but what should I do now? Should I put them into bigger pots when they are about to flower or leave them be?

I'd pot them on. I've never had problems potting on flowering chillies/peppers - this year mine went into their final pots (6L air-pots) from 7cm sq pots when a foot or more tall, with flowers, and in some cases fruit, already on the plants. Thry are doing fine.

All my peppers are in 10ltr pots no matter the type.

I find it is difficult to keep them evenly watered in smaller pots... 10L is a good size to use, as other growers are saying.

Pot them on, Grubbypaws, and they will do you proud! :D

I only have a small mini greenhouse and 6 chillis so 5L pots are about the biggest I can fit in (along with my basil). I will put them on some nice thick capilliary matting so hopefully they will be kept well watered.

It should be fine in the boarder Ches. It'll be easier to keep it watered properly  there.
