Title: My First Day Of Gardening
Post by: Tykelad on March 21, 2010, 19:41
Today was my first day of gardening ! Having built my 4 raised beds last earlier this week (3m X 1.5m X 18inch), i put some well rotted manure in the bottom and filled them to a level of 12inc with top soil. I have filled 2 of them but want to plant something in them before i finish filling the other two. Tommorow i want to put in some Potatoes and Onions. The cabbage and peas i planted in seed trays 3 days ago already have green shoots on them and i feel quite proud ! ::)
My question is, where do i get the seed potatoes from and onion sets from without getting ripped off and is it too early to put them in anyway ?

Thanx

Tyke

Please can you put a location in your profile, so that we know where you are :)

I don't know if you have a Wilkinson stor near you, but they have potatoes and onion sets at a reasonable price. That's if they have any left, as they start to stock them just after Christmas!

You can also look in the poundshop, they do stock them as well :)

Potatoes are going in in the south but don't know about up north, if that's where you are

I am in sunny (very sunny today) North Yorkshire. I have rented 5 acres froma local farmer for my other half who has horses (plenty of manure !) and a corner of which is going to be my vegetable haven. We have a Wilkinsons close by so will go there tommorow.
If and when i do put them in, will i have to cover them up to prevent the local rabbit population having a feast ?

Thanx
