First week
« on: June 07, 2019, 20:00 »
It’s been five days since we’ve had our allotment.

We now have runner beans, potatoes, beetroot, cabbage, tomatoes, melon and a chilli plant all in the ground.

We have almost cleared outside of the poly tunnel and we now have a sitting area (photos attached)

We have a “overly helpful” neighbour that keeps leaving us “presents”. Today was a random black bin.

Most of what we have planted have been gifts from plot neighbours or my grandad.

I have some rainbow carrots, spring onions and spinach to sow tomorrow morning.

Any advice on sewing spinach? Should is be grown on a pot or in the ground?

What a great week!!
Sow te spinach direct in the soil, don't try to transplant it or it'll bolt.

I was thinking abut sowing direct but wasn’t sure. Thanks for confirming

I sow my spinach and chard in spring in the ground.
Will be picking it from those sowings from June to next April.
I do also sow some in the ground now and from greenhouse seed sowings in a tray transplant out now to fill any gaps.
Do find Spinach needs plenty of watering during the summer, it dries out quickly.
Of course, regular picking, will keep the plants producing.
