Is it better to store spuds (maincrop) with or without the mud on, ie do I need to wash them before storing?  Have just dug mine up, a little early due to blight.

Washing them seriously reduces the storage time.

OK, thanks.  I did think that, though only because the mud covered spuds my mum bought in the 60's seemed to last for months where the shop bought washed ones I have bought are sprouting within a week usually.

reading johns diary about his blighted spuds it realy is bad this year,as ive said before I store mine in mushroom boxes and not sacks this way you can check over them much easier, you just need to throw something over them like a blanket or dust sheet, same goes for onions
here some i dug yesterday

you can pick these up from behind your local chippy, restraunt, hotel, supermarket etc they only throw them away
feed the soil not the plants
organicish

That looks a good method of storage.  At the moment I have sacks and only have enough spuds this year to keep one sack in the utility room cupboard.  (plus one with the remains of the earlies in it). next year I am hoping for more like your numbers of spuds so will be on the lookout for mushroom trays I think.
