I read somewhere flour and water is an alternative to beer in slug traps, also bran in water (breakfast cereal).

Pilko  - Its bad enough they eat your dinner and tea now you want to give them breakfast as well

If you make bread, you will have some easy bake yeast. I put a couple of teaspoons in a large 4 pt milk bottle fill with water and shake. This works just as well as beer and my beer traps become full of slugs/snails.
The best way though is to get that torch out at night and pick them off.

so do you do this every 6 weeks? or it will last the whole season? seems so simple to do, got to have a crack at it, i think last years rain... everyone had slugs and blight, if you didn't you was lucky i think, im quite new at growing, and it kinda put me off a little, but everyone pointed out to me it was a freak year and to carry on

Nematodes would need replacing every 6 weeks or so whether they are bought or this yet to be tested diy method (by me) . Influx of nematodes kills off most slugs - nematodes then don't have enough "slug food" to survive so die off - slug numbers then increase... Think that's how it goes... hope that helps. ;-)
