Campbell duck sitting advice needed please
« on: May 03, 2012, 21:23 »
Hi, I have 12 Campbell girls and a trio of runner ducks, they live in an acre field surrounded by electric netting. During the day they roam the field and are locked away at night in a shed . Two of my campbell girls have made an nest in an empty chicken house in the field, they have laid about 15 eggs and are now sitting for about a week. Is it possible to hatch Campbell cross runner ducks? He has been treating the girls. Also should I separate them away from the rest or will they just find there own space in the field?

I don't see why they shouldn't hatch ok afterall this is how new breeds have been developed  :).
I think they should be ok where they are, just keep a close eye for a few days after the ducklings hatch.
Remember though when they do we want to see them  :D
Staffies are softer than you think.

Forgot to add that you ought to mark the eggs with pencil so you can remove any new eggs that the others may lay  :).

Thdre is no reason they won't hatch but Campbells are notoriously bad sitters and mums so they often get bored halfway through sitting. If you can separate them for the other (particularly the drakes) for the hatch as the ducklings can be attacked by them.
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.
