Title: what have we done...?
Post by: bitstreams on February 24, 2017, 18:53
Signed up to take over an allotment in our village yesterday. We're enthusiastic rather than talented gardeners and the veg patch in our small garden became a fruit/rhubarb patch last year.
But now we've taken on an allotment that's twice the size of our garden and hasn't been used for at least a couple of years.

So hello - I think this place could be useful. Not quite sure whether we start by digging it over and weeding now or covering it with black polythene to try and kill the weeds first - or digging then covering.

Any help gratefully received.

If the soil sticks to your boots, keep off  :D

If it sticks to all the weed roots, perhaps wait until it dries out a little!

And make sure that anything not yet weeded is covered over before it starts growing, or nuked once it does - or it will get on top of you before you turn you back.
