Weed 'n' Feed
« on: March 29, 2011, 10:32 »
The contents of the box of weed n feed in the shed has gone solid and is difficult to break up to use.  Any suggestions please how to get it fine enough to use. Will small clumps of it kill/burn the grass in patches? Could i use it on the gravel in this state to kill a few weeds in the gravel?
Thanks in anticipation of ideas as I dont like to throw anything away.

I can't believe it is so hard a lump hammer will not deal with it.  How about the kitchen food processor !    Cheers,   Tony.

Or a big mortar and pestle..? When you decide how to break it up, please be careful and wear suitable clothing, gloves, a face mask and watch were you do it as the process and resultant powder will swirl and drift onto anything.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

A bucket and a spade?  Be careful about inhaling it though!

DO NOT use on your grass in this condition as you rightly stated it will burn. Pop down to Wilkos where you can buy a box of weed feed and mosskiller to cover 100sq mts for £3.49  . I would not risk using your stuff even if you manage to break it up.

Thanks all, much appreciated. I did forget to say the solid block of weed n feed is sort of soft in the middle,( a bit like flapjack texture ) and when hit with something like a hammer just compacts it further. Think its time to discard it. Any suggestions where?

Do you have a council "Recycling/dumpit site?" That's the best place for any dodgy chemicals, used oil, or in fact anything that shouldn't go either in the bin or down the drain. ()
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!
