When to prune my fruit trees ?

Hi , when is the time to prune my fruit trees?

What sort of fruits, what sort of pruning? You generally only prune stone fruits when they're in growth, so not normally for a couple more months yet, as they're more vulnerable to disease when dormant. Apples and pears you tend to prune differently in summer and winter, and you may not need to do both each year.

I have several minarette style trees and prune the apples and pears twice a year (once about now and one at the end of June) to keep their shapr. Cut back to a fruiting bud and make sure you don't cut them all of (my daughter -- pear tree ... why are there no pears this year? Hmmmm

The cherry I prune once it has fruited and grown the massive long shtoots it likes to put on then. Seems to work as we always have ample friut on them all.

Oh, and the fig I hack at from time to time!!!

Sunshine we once done a Fig tree for someone and gee did we react to the sap in the Fig tree blisters on my arms so big and sore for days.

If its apple all I know if they are trained its late summer or else over winter until February.
