Title: new to chickens
Post by: sunny side up on August 05, 2010, 10:37
Hi all I am new to chickens, got my first trio last Saturday. 3 lovely Buff Orpingtons, they have been named  Rockey, Ginger & Babs. I have fenced off a large section of my garden 40x60 ft for my chucks and they seem to love being out all day chasing flies is the latest craze. Not laughed so much in years. They are 15 weeks old so should I restrict the amount of time they are on the grass &  can they eat to much ?????

Hi Sunny and welcome to the madhenhouse!

chickens don't usually eat too much, although sometimes they can overdose on the greenstuff, and if you give them extras like lettuce, it can give them the runs a bit as its all water, but they will love free ranging in their lovely big run.
We need photo's too you know!!!    :D :D

That sounds like a good size run for them. They won't eat too much greenstuff, besides if mine are anything to go by there won't be any greenstuff left soon!

I have one buff orp, blondie she is such a character and is as soft as a Labrador! Enjoy the chucks and let us know when you get your next lot (it won't be far away!!!!!)
