One of my nieces ducks, a lovely chocolate mini crested died suddenly last night. She had been fine the day before and my niece found her in their duck house dead with blood having come from her beak. She was less than a year old I think.

Any ideas would be a great help. She's very upset.

Any signs of trauma / attack?

Does she have any other ducks? the only thing that really comes up reading about is duck plague (duck viral enteritis) which is highly contagious but animals can be found with blood coming from their mouth. Hopefully it is not this.

Thanks for your replies, it's much appreciated.

I thought of trauma at first, but I doubt this is the case as they have a Flyte So Fancy covered run and are only in her garden when shes about.

I've also read about the viral enteritis and I'm praying it's not that.

My niece is having her first proper Christmas in her own home and was so happy, then this happens. It's the way life goes at times, but upsetting all the same.
