Is this normal?
« on: November 30, 2007, 16:50 »
For the past couple of weeks, on and off, one of my hens has quite literally lost her voice. She has always been a chatterbox right from the word go. My neighbour was telling me that the other day there was a god damn almighty row coming from the girls.(I only have 2 of them) but even before then her voice went, then came back but has gone again. I am giving them ACV in their water. This lack of voice has been happening since she started laying, but also since I have been laying down bark chippings in their run. (I don't have grass)

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks again

Munty is trying to find out here if she has any problems with infections - so does this hen behave any differently to the other one  :?:

I had my hens run filled with bark chips formtwo and a half years without any health problems so I think you can rule that out  :!:

I don't think she has any of the other symptoms, but I will double check in the morning. She is not behaving any differently from normally, apart from not being able to talk all the  time. What does pmt stand for?

Sorry..What I really meant is that she is hoarse. She sounds squeaky, like when we have laryngitis. She is no better still. But I checked her throat and mouth and everything is nice and healthy and pink. As I say she is otherwise behaving the same...Just the voice really! But if one of your girls went the same, and has been for 2 years, then maybe that is how she is going to be. As long as she is ok is my main concern :)
