I take cuttings from gooseberry bushes each year.
I cut lengths about six inches a few months after the fruit has finished and the bush start to die down, but still ahs signs of buds.
Just place them in a pot and next Spring they will have strong roots, buds and start producing a set of leaves.
That is the time I transfer them to their main position. You will get some fruit the first year, but the following years they will become much more productive.
