Greenhouse bolts
« on: April 03, 2010, 17:09 »
I really wish Id remembered to put a few extra bolt in the channels while I was building the frame  :(

Has anyone found a good source for cropped bolts and this sort of thing.

http://www.greenhousewarehouse.com/products/spares/sp-nutboltringx10-greenhouse-nut--bolt-and-ring-set-%2810%29.html

It might be me being deep of pocket and short of arm but prices seem to be silly.

I found that wilkinson bits for a GH rust in a very short time.
I posted this in a previous thread,worth a look!

I bought some from a nearby garden centre, the alloy cropped head type with nuts.
£1.99 for 15!

Must be me - they don't seem overly cheap for what they are either. 26p a bolt, its not like they're gold plated or anything !

I bought some guardman cropped headed ones locally  - they're obviously made to such a poor tolerance - they're just too big. I've had the file out but my fat fingers don't make it an easy job  >:(

I found that attacking an ordinary greenhouse bolt with a file works with me (if I only need a couple of them) other than that, I pay the couple of quid to save myself the hassle.....

Dunno if it makes any differences, but when I were a kid "cropped bolts" had triangular heads - i.e. one corner filed off, rather than both sides. You had to insert one of the tips first, and then the rest would go in. Perhaps it helped to get it the right way round - so that tightening presented a flat edge to the inside of the channel.

Just mention it in case it makes less work for anyone "filing one down"
