we can use them, however a neighbour that has a plot on a different site can not, he says that the reason given, is so there is no waiting at the taps

i'm guessing the site your on is not a council one but the other one is? all the council ones in peterborough are bound by the same set of terms and conditions

no, we definitely pay our rent to peterborough council

Newton Abbot, Devon. A very wet area, still not allowed to use a hose.

We are on a water meter!!!
It all depends what you put into the ground, to what you get out

We're allowed, but I get annoyed when people leave their sprinklers on and then go home.

They usually come back to find that somehow they've got turned off.

You do that? How cool, do you want to use the grassy bits of my area for a (4th?) plot? You'd save me buying a timer for my sprinkler :D

Personally I'd leave their sprinklers on and watch them swim to their crops. Hard lesson, but they'll only have to learn it once ;)

All of our private plots in Ards have a tapped water supply, with our sandy soil it needs it, my secret is to stay later than the rest so i get some pressure as it drops when 2 or more tun on taps.

We have a large site run by a long established association... stand-pies along the main path and others dotted further in.

Hose pipes allowed and some people choose to stand sprinkle cold water for hours. Others of us mostly fill water butts and baths leaving it to warm before watering directly where it’s needed rather than soaking the soil and watering weed seeds.

Never seen an argument over use of stand pipes but some exasperation when those who water continuously grab all the pressure for others who simply want to top up water butts and go home.

Late evenings and early mornings the pressure is fine.

All taps off at the beginning of autumn and on again at the beginning of spring. This is a pain when you want a drink and forget a flask of water for the kettle!  ::)

We have a council run (correction council neglected site) which does have three hose pipes, to which we have free access during the spring and summer. There is one hose pipe chav who puts his sprinkler on and then leaves it on for hours denying others access.
99% Organic and 1% Slug Pellets.

Allotment holder since 27th May 2007.

I haven't got a clue if we're allowed to use them on our site (no written contract after 18 months), but I go down at 6 am and fill my butt up once in a while so as not to hog the taps. I don't have to do this very much as I have a 1000 lt water butt aquired from a local buisness, once filled it keeps me in water for some time.

We have a tap to about 6 plots and we are allowed to use hoses but not sprinklers. We are water metered but our rent more than covers this cost.

We are a parish site and to be fair the parish does put most of the rent back into our site. Going a bit of topic sorry but i could start a whole new thread about ppl on our site moaning that the whole of the £25 rent doesnt go back into the site! i just say  it does go into the parish coffers which does get spent on us in other ways.  These  same ppl are in the middle of tryng to start a self governing allotment society , which i oppose!!!!  sorry for ranting lol
I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.

We use them on ours, rules not very clear weather you can or cannot use them, Don't ask. I have a plastic water container at the bottom of my plot an old house storage one, and a short lenth of hose to fill it from the tap, watering can keeps you fit  ???  :) don't seem to be working

No water what so ever on my plot, plants have to rely on nature, though I do take water up there for new plantings
Baz.........
Mostly organic...
