what is the best sand to use in the dust bath for the girls as at the mo its to wet for them to use the soil .

I've used playsand.. but then I use child safe bark chips too.. always think if it's safe for kids it's safe for my chooks! lol

I use Sharps sand used in the building trade about £2.50 a bag and lasts for ages.

I have read on here that it can help to add Diatom to the sand as a preventative for pests such as lice etc

thanks for that peeps will get some tomorrw morning , my poor girls dug a bit if ground today to try an get to the dry stuff underneath the hole wasnt even a foot wide and there was 5 birds trying to fit in it so a sand bath will go down very well.

I have an old litter tray full of sand.. the stupid girls just peck at at and never bathe in there... stupid girls..
