Dark lump on bottom of neck above wing....
« on: January 17, 2010, 20:49 »
Hello and happy new year.

Firsttly |I hope you are all well.

One of my Amberlincs has developed a dark lump more oval in shrape about 1inch is diameter on her back. Its just above her wing joint. I noticed this about 1week ago. Does any one have any experience of this and if so what could it be. Do I need to send her to heaven or the table?

Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks

Diane

is the lump hard or soft? Has she been attacked by another bird resulting in a blood filled cyst (sorry can't remember the correct name for this), is the darkness a bruise?, Can she move her wing as normal, does she have a temperature? (feel under her wing and compare to another bird), does she have any other symptoms? Is she eating and drinking and apart from this seemingly healthy?
Sorry for so many questions but without seeing your bird or at least a photo we really need more info about it. Joyful xx
Staffies are softer than you think.

Hi I;ve had another look today. She is happy, looks well and is eating anddrinking as normal. She does not have a temperature and no other signs of illness. She can use her wings as normal. The lump is soft.. I Will try to take a picture tomorrow.

Thanks
Diane

Hi I have managed to get a picture its very close up as I had to do it by myself. It is at the top of her wing.

Any suggestions would be helpfull.

We are not sure if she is laying at the moment and are trying to get a second coop so we can establish if she is past her prime. My hens are about 18months young!

Regards

She could be about to moult, or could be laying less as it is winter.  Our ex-batts were 18 months when they came to us and were laying almost daily until just before Christmas, glad they are having a rest actually.  Regardless of their 'prime'
1 lovely hubby, 3 dogs, a bunny and 7 ex batts and a shiny new lottie!  (so far)

It would be a shame to cull her when you have no idea what the lump is. Take her to the vets and get her checked out...as for eating her i think she will be rather tough at 18months old...dont even think a slow cooker would do it ;)

Thanks for your replies. She is very happy and it does not bother her so I thin I'll keep a close eye on her over this next week before I rush to the vets. Not got the cash available at the moment but would be able to pay a visit in a few weeks if needed,
