hi ,this is my first post. have got 4 hens everything fine since may 09 until this week
when 2 eggs laid on different days have had large amounts of blood in egg whites. please could you advise... : :

I don't know the answer to this, maybe someone else can help you, but I was just wondering whether they are fertilised eggs, do you have a cockerill?

hi ,i do'not have a cockerill  used some eggs today the amount of blood seems to be
getting less.i wonder if i am over feeding with lettice+greens usually twice a day thanksyou

They get all they need from the layers pellets so you could try removing all treats for a few days and see if that makes a difference. I would have thought too much lettuce & cabbage would just give them the runs. Are all your chooks laying these type of eggs or is it just one. I think sometimes the odd hen does have this problem.

How much blood are we talking?
Photos of the eggs cracked in a white bowl would be good.
Not scrambled.
It is quite normal to have the odd blood spot or part of the "womb" 

I will not be food related so do not stop the treats or change the pellets/mash.

Unless your treating them with barbed wire?

Ahhh Ruff, you have such a way with words   I agree though, unlikely to be food related and a photo would be much appreciated. For example the photo below is a perfectly normal egg, although more heavily bloodied than usual.

They would only be blood in the egg if it had been fertilised and been sat on for at least a few days. i.e. the embryo had started to grow.

You can tell if the egg is fertile if there is a white dot in the yolk see photo below.

hi, since my last message a couple of weeks ago the problem with eggs
seems to have stopped there has been no more exessive blood in eggs.
