Title: Bottling pears
Post by: Sarsox on October 19, 2013, 18:39
Hello, I have done some bottled pears and they look good & the jars are properly sealed but the syrup doesn't cover the pears by about 2cm. Does this matter ?  Thanks

If the pears are in contact with the air inside the jar the pears will start to 'go off' and lose their colour.  I should re - jar.

Cheers,   Tony.

That happens to me too but I just give the jar a shake and they mostly settle. The ones out of the liquid will brown a bit but they're still edible. It's just looks. No need to rebottle.

When bottling I add some scrunched up greaseproof paper to stop the fruit from floating and keep them under the syrup.
