Wanted, A good quality baking tray.

Wanted, A good quality baking tray.

I think i am going to have to invest in another baking tray as the present aluminium one which came with a 1960`s gas cooker is nearing its last bake.

Any pointers towards a large good quality baking tray which does not warp and leap around the oven if it gets 10 degrees warmer or shed its non stick coating after a month will be of great help. :)

Non stick not essential as long as the tray is cleanable and lasts !

Are the meyer circulon trays good ?

Can't say about the trays, but if they are as good as the pans they should be brilliant.

You get what you pay for like anything. I must admit my favourites are steel trays bought by my Mum when we were in catering many years ago, they came from a catering equipment supplier. They are not non stick as such, just quality, heavy trays without much of a lip. The years have made them pretty non stick, but if I have a sticky disaster I can use a wire scrubber and know I will be doing no harm.

We bought some aluminium swiss roll tins at the same time, same place, but they have gone a bit mis-shapen now. I keep them for sentimental reasons. With the silicon sheets you can get I don't think non stick is essential. I have bought a few sheets from Lidl when they have them and cut them to fit trays and cake tins.

I'm not a big fan of non-stick trays because they usually aren't, and when something does stick you can't give them a decent clean without damaging the surface. When I buy those they usually end up retired to the greenhouse in less than a year. My personal favourite is enamel trays. I bought a couple of really good Kitchencraft ones and they're completely indestructible and very easy to clean.

In Ashford, Kent, there's a fantastic outlet centre, and in there is a shop called ProCook. We buy all our kitchen gear from there. A couple of months ago Mrs James bought some new baking trays - solid metal (not aluminium or tin) and tough. A large tray was £5 and the smaller ones were less.

Have a look around your area for an outlet store, or try and Google ProCook to see where the nearest one is to you.
I may be Welsh, but I love ewe anyway!

I'm after one at the moment as mine is too little.  I use the baking tin liners though which I won at WeightWatchers and they turn a cruddy little baking tray into something much better and completely non-stick  :)  Tesco has some decent quality ones.

I use the Lakeland baking trays. They are nonstick but I always use baking parchment or the reuseable brown lining paper, also from Lakeland.

They are really sturdy and heavy and will obviously last a good long while.

Having said that I have about 15 tins that I bought down the market 38 years ago and they are still going strong.

They were the tins that the sweet stall had the slabs of toffee on that was hit with a hammer to break it up before it was sold.

They sold the empty tins for 10p each.

I think I was robbed.

I have two circulon baking trays that we've had for at least 2 years and they've been good so far - no warping or loss of coating etc. and the do get a fair bit of use.  They are the ones with the ridges so not flat, but we use them for all sorts - even roast potatoes on occasion...  The only thing that my OH winges about is that they've discoloured quite a bit, but it doesn't affect their use at all. If you don't mind that, i'd say they were good trays.

We bought an Anolon roasting tray a year before that, not a cheap one and the coating is peeling off when we roast meat and the bottom is bowed, so I wouldn't recommend them.

I got a fabulous baking tray in IKEA - heavy duty steel (not non stick but scrubable with a brillo pad!!).  So good that I went back and got a second one as a spare.  My toms are currently in the oven in one of them drying. :D :D

The best baking tray I ever had (still got!)  came with my Rangemaster cooker back in Essex 15 years ago.

It is still my favourite one.   ;)

I use an old stainless butchers display tray, you can buy them on ebay, but they're not cheap!

Good idea !
They would be good for freezing fish fillets etc too. :)

That's a nice tray!

These pans are good too, but also only if you win the lottery! lol  No good now for my induction hob as they are ali!

Firs saw them at a show years ago.  Brilliant!  They could even burn sugar or an egg in them and they cleaned with a little oil and kitchen towel!
