Hi there,

I was hoping for a little advice on what to do with my caulifowers andc cabbages as their leaves are turning white and whithering.

I recently bought the plants, built a raised bed out of railway sleepers and planted them about 2 weeks ago. The leaves on them have slowly started changing to white and are withering. One of my cauliflowers looks likes its just doomed now but im hoping theres away i can save the rest of them and the cabbages!

I can think of two possibilites:

Not adjusted to sun or some form of fertiliser?

The soil i used to fill the raised bed was mainly multipurpose compost mixed with compost from my own garden pile.

If anybody could give me some advice on what to do that would be great.

I would say these are not adjusted to sun rather than fertiliser. If you have been watering and there are water water droplets on the leaves in strong sunshine it can act like a lens and burn.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes i thought it could be that and have been very careful about watering them in the day when it is sunny.

I have tried putting a make shift cover to give them a little more shade and careful watering times.

is there anything else i could do?

It looks like sun damage to me too.

Did you harden them off properly after you bought them ?  They were probably raised in a glasshouse and the leaves would be fairly soft.

I didn't harden them off and as soon as i planted them we had a few days of particulary sunny weather.

Do you think they will survive?

They will probably survive but will have been badly checked.
