Apart from the link stating: "They are such good value, it's hardly worth the bother."

Just in case there was a gardening Poinst to it, a guy once in the garden centre of a well-known chain told me, plant it on, as soon as you can, we never anymore use compost.

I don't think, it would be any different in most places, unless you bought it in a well run local nursery, etc.

I think like Gobs said, they're just seen as a disposable thing; though we had one at my work (in England) that lasted for years and was quite nice (I don't normally like poinsettias myself)
